This past Monday I had the pleasure of speaking at a Social Media Boot Camp in Sunnyvale, California. It was a sold out event with 100+ participants who spent the entire day getting actionable information to help them with several facets of their social media needs.
I started the day with a presentation on blogging which was followed by presentations by social media coach, Janet Fouts who shared advice on finding the right social networks and what tools to use to figure it out. Tools are such an essential part of making your social media experience efficient. The right tool will allow you to optimize your efforts.
Then Patrick Schwerdtfeger shared how to attract traffic to your website or blog. He reaffirmed some of the points I made on how article marketing can be an excellent distribution method.
Next Adam Helweh shared his secrets for working with Twitter, I really loved the presentation! The information was well presented and the design was fantastic. He talked about his methodology for Twitter success: (Trust + Value) x Engagement = Influence. I like it, simple and true.
Last day for the day for the regular session was social media coach, Yvonne Urness who taught us to HULA, literally! Yvonne is Hawaiian and grew within the hula culture was it only seems natural that she would use the dance to formulate an acronym to assist people with their social media strategy: H = Have Courage / U = Understand Your Audience / L = Leverage Your Content / A = Add Value.
There was a bonus session presented by Massimo Paolini which I was unfortunately unable to make, but if the rest of the day was any indication, I know the was a hit! He did a session on analytics, something that a lot of people struggle with. It is important to understand how to gain insights to your activities, but remember, don’t let the drive for numbers be your only goal!
An action packed day full of very useful information, I was glad to be a part of it.
